Despite distorted views regarding medicinal cannabis users, chronic and debilitating illnesses impact people from all walks of life regardless of background, age or income. A medical cannabis patient could be an accountant, a teacher, or a retired person. Under Colorado Law a patient must have the recommendation of licensed Colorado physician for the medical use of cannabis. An individual suffering from a number of medical conditions such as glaucoma, cancer, severe nausea, HIV/AIDS, cachexia (wasting that results from several diseases), seizures (including those related to epilepsy), severe chronic pain, muscle spasticity and muscle spasms (often associated with multiple sclerosis) may enroll in the state’s Medical Marijuana Registry. This enrollment provides patients and/or their primary caregivers with the proper identification credentials that authorize those individuals to possess marijuana for medicinal use.
